Recipe Development

Recipe Development

This Business Scenario Map is designed for all process industries. It shows how the product manager, the product/packaging developer and the production/quality responsible work together over the entire NPDI process. Recipe Development integrates all recipe and formula development data, together with research and development, production, and safety data, into a single environment to provide enhanced development capabilities, including faster product development and improved product consistency.

Recipe Development

The Recipe Development capabilities support SAP’s NPDI process with recipes, specifications, formulas, materials, and production operations within the SAP Recipe Management.

SAP Recipe Management features give users faster access to objects and functions, faster recipe creation, faster calculations, better control through integration with project management and workflow, faster time-to-volume, and a better re-use of experiences included in formerly developed recipes and formulations.

The key capabilities of SAP Recipe Management supporting Recipe Development include the following:

  1. New product formulation and recipe development

SAP Recipe Management provides a single recipe development environment from which users can produce product definitions, invoke the product formulation process, and create recipes for manufacturing products. Using structural product and raw material specifications, developers can drive product development forward, independent of existing material masters. Using predefined building blocks, users can predefine parts of processes and quickly build new recipes by copying the predefined blocks.
  2. Multilevel recipe management and scale-up

SAP Recipe Management makes available company-wide recipes, which can then be adjusted down to country- and line-specific recipes. The solution supports the transition processes, allowing production to be linked with laboratory standards early on. This speeds up the conversion from laboratory to production standards, which in turn speeds up time-to-market.
  3. Comprehensive recipe management

Users can manage formulas, process planning, and equipment requirements, as well as inspections, which can be incorporated even during the development phase. Master recipes are easily converted from the company to the plant level.
  4. Complete calculation functions

Users can make a variety of calculations from determining a product’s nutritional composition to calculating input and output materials and product costs. Calculation functions can be used as templates to create new, custom-specific functions. Functions for calculating nutritional composition, contribution, and product costs, as well as product losses and gains during processing, are included. The comparison of formulas is also supported.
  5. Flexible reporting capabilities

SAP Recipe Management provides extensive and flexible reporting capabilities, and users can generate customer specifications in multiple languages.
  6. External collaboration

Companies can collaborate with their vendors and suppliers to jointly define raw material and product properties.
  7. Change management

SAP Recipe Management combines recipe management with change management and versioning capabilities so it can manage and document recipe development changes and approvals.
  8. Cost and time controls

Project-based cost and time controls can be applied to the entire product life cycle.
